At 16 years of age I was introduced to the field of EMS by my brother who was working in the ER as an orderly and the local ambulance service while in pre-med. I immediately became hooked! EMS was in it's infancy and I enrolled in the EMT program at the community college in the evening and finished high school and enrolled in the Paramedic program the next fall. I was fortunate to have a career in a field that I loved. I continued in the field and eventually becoming an RN/Paramedic with the Michigan Department of Corrections and having a career that I was fortunate to be able to retire from.
I will always be grateful to my brother for introducing me to the field of EMS and first responders and to my first boss at the ambulance service who took a chance on a wet behind the ears kid to give me a career and a purpose.
